How do I install the app on a smartphone (e.g. iPhone, Android Samsung and Huawei) and tablet (e.g. iPad)?
The installation process varies slightly depending on whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android device. However, all procedures have one thing in common: they adapt to the intuitive behavior of users and their devices. There’s usually a subtle hint that installation is possible. A single tap is almost always all it takes to confirm the installation.
Although this functionality has been established by device and browser manufacturers, the process may still change and differ from the method described here.
First and foremost, your users need the address of your app. This can be obtained in various ways, such as via a QR code, a Facebook post, or as a search result on Google and other search engines.
Installation on an iPhone or iPad:
- Your users either have the URL on hand or click a link that leads to your app.
- The browser opens, and the app launches immediately without a download. If the app is already installed, it opens directly in full-screen mode, depending on the system.
- After a few seconds, a prompt with an arrow appears at the bottom of the screen.
- By tapping the icon and swiping lightly to the left, the “Add to Home Screen” button appears. Here, too, a single tap is all it takes.
Note: This behavior will change with the upcoming iOS 13 and will no longer require an extra swipe. - Finally, just confirm in the top-right corner, and the installation is complete.
Installation on popular Android smartphones and tablets
- Your users should have the address handy or click on a link that leads to your app.
- The browser opens, and the app launches immediately without a download. If the app is already installed, it will open directly in full-screen mode, depending on the system.
- After a few seconds, a notification prompting installation appears at the bottom of the screen.
- By clicking on the prompt and then confirming, the app installs in the background. The user receives a discreet notification when the installation is complete.
